Chef Layla Barcelata was born and raised in Veracruz, Mexico, where her small but vibrant Jewish community inspired her love for tradition, hospitality, and soulful cooking. Her culinary path began at the SDSU Chabad House, where eight formative years shaped her mastery of kosher catering and halachic standards. She achieved a Kashrut Laws Certificate from Yeshiva Pirchei Shoshanim and completed a Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management diploma, strengthening her foundation in both technique and leadership.
With over 15 years of experience, Chef Layla has brought her skills and leadership to King Seafood Company, the kosher and Garde manger departments at the Hyatt Hotel, high-end catering with Feast on This, and the culinary operations at Rady Children’s Hospital. Her adaptability, discipline, and dedication to excellence define her craft.
Guided by heritage and heart, Chef Layla creates food that connects people, honors culture, and celebrates life through warmth, flavor, and genuine hospitality.
“In every dish I craft, devotion is offered, culture is honored, and a gentle part of my heart lives within it.” — Chef Layla Barcelata
